Chin Filler vs Jaw Botox: Different Approaches to Facial Proportions

Proportion, not just size

When people say they want a "smaller" or "more balanced" face, they are usually describing proportion. The lower face is often judged by how the chin relates to the nose and lips, and how the jaw width relates to the cheeks. Two treatments come up frequently in Korean clinics for this: chin filler and jaw Botox. They are sometimes mentioned in the same breath, yet they do almost opposite things.

  • Chin filler adds. A filler is injected to add projection or length to the chin, which can make the lower face look more defined and the profile more balanced.
  • Jaw Botox reduces. Botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter muscle to reduce its activity. Over weeks, a bulky muscle may become less prominent, making the lower face look narrower from the front.

Knowing which part of your face is creating the impression you dislike is the key to choosing between them, or deciding that neither is needed.

When chin filler is usually discussed

Chin filler may be considered when the chin itself looks small or set back. Common concerns include:

  • A recessed chin in profile. If the chin sits behind the line of the lips, adding projection may balance the side view.
  • A short lower face. A little added length can change how the face looks from the front.
  • A soft jaw-to-neck transition. In some people a more defined chin can make the jawline appear sharper.
  • Mild asymmetry. Filler can sometimes help balance a chin that is slightly uneven.

Chin filler changes appearance immediately, although swelling can affect the look for a few days. Like any filler, it carries risks such as bruising, swelling, lumps and, less commonly, vascular complications if filler affects a blood vessel. Severe pain or skin colour changes after treatment need urgent medical attention.

When jaw Botox is usually discussed

Jaw Botox may be considered when width at the back of the lower face comes from a large masseter muscle. Signs include:

  • A square lower face. The angle of the jaw looks wide from the front.
  • A firm bulge when clenching. A doctor will often ask you to clench to feel the muscle.
  • Clenching or grinding habits. These can contribute to muscle bulk, though a dental check is also worthwhile.

The slimming effect develops gradually over weeks rather than immediately, and it fades over months as muscle activity returns. Common effects include tenderness, small bruises and chewing fatigue. If the width comes mostly from bone or fat, jaw Botox may change little. Read more on our jaw Botox page.

Why some people consider both

For some faces, a combination makes sense: a narrower jaw and a slightly more projected chin can together create the tapered lower face often called a V-line. For others, one treatment alone is enough, or neither is advised. A doctor will look at you from the front, in profile and at an angle, consider your bone structure and fat distribution, and discuss what you actually want to change. Our V-line contouring page explains how these approaches can fit together.

A good plan also respects your ethnicity and natural features. A dramatic chin can look out of place on a face that suits a softer shape, so the goal is harmony rather than copying a trend.

Prices at Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon

At Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon, Jaw Botox 50 units is listed at 9,900 KRW. Chin filler is quoted after an in-person consultation, because the amount of product varies. Listed prices are first-visit prices in KRW, VAT excluded (10% VAT added at payment), checked October 2026, and first-visit prices apply once per new patient per item. The full price list shows other options.

Payment is made on the day of treatment, after the consultation confirms the plan, so you will know the total before anything is done.

Questions to bring to your consultation

  • Which part of my face creates the width or imbalance? Muscle, bone, fat or chin position.
  • What will change immediately and what will take weeks? Filler and Botox work on different timelines.
  • What are the main risks for me? Especially relevant for filler and for anyone with previous treatments.
  • Is there anything I should not combine? Your doctor can advise on order and timing.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have medical conditions or medications that affect bleeding or nerves, consult a doctor before treatment. Suitability and results vary, and the doctor decides at consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Can jaw Botox make my chin look longer?

Not directly. It narrows the back of the lower face, which can change overall proportions, but it does not add length or projection to the chin.

Which shows results faster?

Chin filler shows a change straight away, though swelling settles over days. Jaw Botox slimming develops gradually over several weeks.

Can both be done on the same day?

Sometimes, depending on your face and the doctor's assessment. This is decided at consultation.
