First, find out what is causing the double chin

A double chin is not one single problem. The fullness under the jaw can come from different causes, and each one responds to a different kind of treatment. Before comparing ONDA, HIFU and Botox, a doctor will usually look at what is actually creating the shape:

  • Fat under the chin. A soft pocket of fat that you can pinch beneath the jaw.
  • Loose skin. Skin that has lost firmness and drapes below the jawline.
  • Muscle and jaw structure. The shape of the jaw, a short chin or the neck muscles can all contribute to a less defined profile.
  • Posture and weight. Head position and weight changes also affect how the under-chin area looks.

Many people have a combination of these, which is why Korean clinics often build a plan with more than one treatment. Choosing the wrong tool for the cause is a common reason people feel disappointed with a result.

ONDA: targeting fullness with microwave energy

ONDA uses microwave energy that mainly heats the fat layer, with cooling to protect the skin surface. It is often discussed for soft fullness under the chin and along the jawline, and it may also contribute to skin tightening.

  • Often considered for. Mild to moderate fat under the chin.
  • Sensation. Usually described as warmth or heat.
  • Downtime. Temporary redness, warmth or mild swelling for most people.
  • Listed price. ONDA 20,000J is KRW 89,000.

HIFU: tightening and lifting loose tissue

HIFU, or high-intensity focused ultrasound, delivers heat to precise depths, including deeper supportive tissue. It is generally used when the main issue is loose skin and loss of jawline definition rather than fat.

  • Often considered for. Mild sagging under the chin and along the jaw.
  • Sensation. A prickling or deep aching feeling, particularly over bony areas.
  • Downtime. Temporary redness, tenderness and sometimes bruising or numbness.
  • Listed prices. Shurink Universe 300 shots is KRW 55,000; Ultherapy Prime 300 shots is KRW 990,000.

Botox: refining the jaw and neck profile

Botox does not remove fat. Instead, it relaxes muscles. For the lower face, it is most often used in the masseter (jaw) muscles to slim a wide, square jaw, which can change how the lower face and chin appear. In some cases, doctors also discuss Botox for neck bands. It is not a direct treatment for fat under the chin.

  • Often considered for. A wide jaw from strong masseter muscles, as part of V-line contouring.
  • Timeline. Muscle slimming tends to appear gradually over several weeks.
  • Common reactions. Small injection marks, mild bruising or tenderness.
  • Listed price. Jaw Botox 50 units is KRW 9,900.

Fat-dissolving injections as another option

For localised fat under the chin, doctors may also discuss fat-dissolving injections. At Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon, the ZERO steroid-free fat-dissolving injection 3cc is listed at KRW 15,000. Swelling and tenderness are common for a few days after injection. Several sessions may be suggested, depending on the area and response.

Prices and how plans are combined

All prices above are first-visit prices at Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon, in KRW, VAT excluded (10% VAT added at payment), checked October 2026. First-visit prices apply once per new patient per item. See the full price list.

A common approach in Korea is to address each cause separately: for example, fat-dissolving injections or ONDA for fullness, HIFU for loose skin, and jaw Botox for a wide lower face. Your doctor will decide which, if any, are suitable and whether they can be done on the same day. If the profile is mainly shaped by a short chin, other options such as filler may be discussed and quoted after consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Which treatment works fastest for a double chin?

All of these treatments tend to work gradually. Swelling after injections or heat treatments can even make the area look fuller for a few days before it settles.

Can Botox get rid of a double chin?

Botox does not remove fat. It is mainly used to slim the jaw muscles or relax neck bands, which can change the profile but does not treat under-chin fat directly.

Will the results last?

This depends on the treatment and on your weight and lifestyle. Botox effects wear off over time, while heat-based treatments may need maintenance.

Do I need several sessions?

Often more than one session or treatment is suggested, but the plan depends on your anatomy and goals.
