How laser hair removal works

Laser hair removal uses light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The energy travels down the hair shaft and heats the follicle, which reduces its ability to regrow hair. Because hair grows in cycles and only follicles in the active growth phase respond well, a series of sessions is needed. Most people see a gradual reduction in hair density and thickness rather than complete, permanent removal, and results vary with hair colour, skin tone and hormones.

At Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon, two devices are used: GentleMax Pro and Fotona Avalanche. Prices differ by device, area and whether the patient is a woman or a man. The doctor or staff will explain which device suits your skin and hair at consultation.

Why prices differ by device, area and sex

  • Area size. Larger areas such as calves take more time and laser pulses than small areas like the upper lip.
  • Hair density and thickness. Male facial and body hair is often denser and coarser, which usually requires more treatment time.
  • Device. Different devices have different running costs and may be chosen for different skin and hair types.
  • Sensitivity of the area. Intimate areas take more care and time.

Sessions, preparation and aftercare

Because hair grows in cycles, several sessions spaced weeks apart are usually needed. The number varies, and some people need occasional maintenance later, especially in hormonally sensitive areas such as the face. To prepare and recover well:

  • Shave beforehand. Shave the area a day before or as instructed. Do not wax, pluck or use epilators before a course, because the hair root is needed for the laser to work.
  • Avoid tanning. Recent sun exposure or a tan increases the risk of burns and pigment change.
  • Expect mild redness. Redness and small bumps around follicles are common for a few hours to a day.
  • Protect from the sun. Use sunscreen on treated exposed areas.
  • Skip heat briefly. Avoid saunas, hot baths and intense exercise on the day of treatment.

Less common side effects include blistering, temporary darkening or lightening of the skin, and rarely paradoxical hair growth. Tell the staff if you are pregnant, take photosensitising medication, or have a history of keloids. Light, grey or red hairs generally respond poorly to laser.

Frequently asked questions

Is laser hair removal permanent?

It typically produces long-term hair reduction rather than total, permanent removal. Some regrowth may occur, and maintenance sessions are common.

Are the prices per session?

Yes. The prices listed are for 1 session at first-visit rates, excluding 10% VAT.

Which device should I choose?

The choice depends on your skin and hair type. The clinic will recommend a device at consultation.

Can I do laser hair removal while on holiday in Busan?

Yes, but avoid strong sun and tanning around treatment, and remember that a full course takes several sessions.
