Thermage vs Shurink: Which Treatment Targets Your Skin Concerns?

Starting with your skin concern, not the device

Thermage and Shurink are two of the most frequently searched lifting treatments in Korea, but they work in different ways and suit different concerns. Rather than asking which one is better, it is more useful to ask what is bothering you about your skin. Is it loose, crepey texture? Is it a softening jawline? Is it fine lines, or overall firmness? The answer helps a doctor decide which treatment, or which combination, makes sense.

How the two technologies differ

  • Thermage FLX is a monopolar radiofrequency (RF) device. It heats a broad volume of the deeper skin layers, with cooling to protect the surface. It is mainly associated with skin tightening and texture.
  • Shurink Universe is a HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) device. It focuses energy into tiny heated points at selected depths, including deeper supportive tissue. It is mainly associated with lifting and contour definition.

An easy way to picture it is that RF works more like a broad, even warming of the skin, while HIFU works like precise points of heat placed at a set depth. Both aim to stimulate collagen, but the pattern and depth of the heat are different.

Matching concerns to treatments

The following are general patterns that doctors often consider. Your own plan may differ after an examination.

Concerns often discussed with Thermage FLX

  • Crepey or thinning skin. Where the surface looks loose and finely wrinkled.
  • Overall firmness. A general tightening across the face and neck.
  • Eye area. Using a dedicated eye tip for hooded or loose eyelid skin in suitable patients.

Concerns often discussed with Shurink Universe

  • Jawline definition. Mild sagging along the lower face.
  • Under-chin area. Mild laxity beneath the jaw.
  • Regular maintenance. A lighter treatment that is often repeated at intervals.

Many visitors have more than one concern, which is why Thermage and HIFU are sometimes combined in Korean treatment plans. Whether that is appropriate for you is decided at consultation.

It also helps to consider how often you are willing to come back. Some patients prefer a more intensive treatment less often, while others prefer a lighter treatment repeated at shorter intervals. If you live abroad and visit Korea only occasionally, mention this at consultation, because it may change which approach the doctor suggests and how the plan is spaced around your travel.

Comfort, downtime and timeline

Both treatments are non-invasive and most people return to normal activities on the same day. The sensations differ: Thermage is usually felt as pulses of deep heat, while Shurink is more often described as prickling or aching, particularly over bony areas. Common, temporary side effects for both include redness, swelling and tenderness. With RF there is a small risk of heat-related reactions such as blistering, and with HIFU some people notice temporary bruising or numbness.

Results for both tend to develop gradually over weeks to months, and they vary from person to person. Neither treatment can replace surgery for significant sagging.

Prices at Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon

Pricing is structured differently for each treatment:

  • Shurink Universe 300 shots. KRW 55,000, first-visit price, VAT excluded (10% VAT added at payment), checked October 2026.
  • Thermage FLX. Quoted after an in-person consultation, because the tip and shot count depend on your treatment area and plan.

First-visit prices apply once per new patient per item, and you pay at the clinic on the day of treatment after the consultation confirms the plan. You can see other lifting prices on our price list, and read more on our Thermage FLX and Shurink Universe pages.

Questions to ask during your consultation

  • What is the main cause of my concern? Loose skin, volume loss or fullness each call for a different approach.
  • Which areas will be treated? Ask how energy or shots will be distributed.
  • Should I combine or choose one? Ask whether a single treatment is enough for your goals.
  • What should I expect after I fly home? Ask what reactions are normal and when to contact the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

Is Thermage stronger than Shurink?

They are different technologies with different goals, so "stronger" is not a simple comparison. A doctor will match the treatment to your concern.

Can Thermage and Shurink be done on the same day?

Combinations are common in Korea, but suitability depends on your skin and is decided at consultation.

Which one is better for the jawline?

HIFU is often discussed for jawline definition, while RF is more associated with skin tightening. Your anatomy determines what is most appropriate.
