What "best" means for a traveller

Korea is known for a wide range of non-invasive lifting treatments, and many visitors arrive with a list of device names from social media. The right choice for one person is not necessarily right for another. Instead of looking for a single best procedure, it helps to judge each option against criteria that matter when you are travelling:

  • Your main concern. Sagging, loss of jawline definition, crepey texture or soft fullness each point to different technologies.
  • Downtime. On a trip, you want a treatment that lets you keep sightseeing, eating out and flying home comfortably.
  • Timeline of results. Most lifting treatments work gradually, so you may see the full effect after you have returned home.
  • Budget. Prices vary widely between devices, so knowing the range helps you plan.
  • Follow-up. Consider whether you can come back for maintenance, or whether a single session needs to stand on its own.

The main non-invasive lifting technologies

Focused ultrasound (HIFU)

HIFU delivers ultrasound energy to precise depths, including the deeper supportive layer of the face. It is mainly used for lifting and contour definition. Ultherapy Prime includes real-time imaging, while Shurink Universe is a Korean device often used as a lighter, repeatable option. Common reactions include temporary redness, tenderness and occasionally bruising or numbness.

Radiofrequency (RF)

RF heats a broader volume of the skin to encourage tightening and collagen production. Thermage FLX is a well-known monopolar RF device. Other RF devices such as Oligio and Alltite are also used in Korea; if you are interested in these, ask during consultation which options are available. RF is often associated with improvement in skin texture and firmness.

Microwave contouring

ONDA uses microwave energy that mainly heats the fat layer, and is often discussed for soft fullness under the chin or along the lower cheeks.

Combination and newer devices

Titanium lifting combines energy types in one treatment, and devices such as Sofwave and XERF use their own approaches to ultrasound or RF. InMode FX is often used in contouring plans. These offer more ways to tailor a plan, but your doctor will explain whether they are relevant for you.

Planning your treatment around a trip

A little planning helps you get the most out of a lifting treatment while travelling:

  • Book early in your stay. This gives any tenderness or swelling time to settle and leaves room for a follow-up question if needed.
  • Share your travel dates. Let the clinic know when you fly so the doctor can plan suitable treatments.
  • Bring your history. Note any previous fillers, threads, Botox or lifting devices, including dates if you know them.
  • Protect your skin. Use sunscreen and a hat, especially in summer in Busan.
  • Take photos. Before and after photos in similar lighting help you notice gradual change.

When non-invasive lifting may not be enough

Non-invasive devices are generally better suited to mild to moderate laxity. If you have significant sagging, heavy skin excess or marked volume loss, a device alone may not meet your expectations. A doctor may suggest combining treatments, adding volume-restoring injectables such as fillers or collagen boosters, or seeking a surgical opinion. Results vary for everyone, and a responsible consultation will be honest about limits.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have implanted electronic devices or have a medical condition affecting healing, tell the doctor, as some treatments may need to be postponed or avoided.

Frequently asked questions

Which lifting treatment has the least downtime?

Most non-invasive lifting treatments allow a return to normal activities the same day. Temporary redness, swelling or tenderness are common with all of them.

Can I combine two lifting devices in one visit?

Combinations such as HIFU with RF are common in Korea, but whether they suit you, and on which day, is decided at consultation.

Will I see results before I fly home?

Some people notice a slight change soon after, but most lifting results develop over weeks to months.

Do I need to speak Korean?

No. Consultations at Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon are available in English, Japanese and Korean.
