Why the jawline is a common reason for Ultherapy

A defined jawline is one of the features that changes most visibly with age. Skin loosens, tissue along the lower face can descend, and jowls may start to form. Many people who look into Ultherapy are hoping to sharpen the line between the face and neck. Ultherapy can help some people with this goal, but it is important to understand what kind of jawline concern it addresses and where its limits lie.

How Ultherapy works on the lower face

Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to place small points of heat at selected depths, including the deeper supportive layer of the face. Ultherapy Prime includes real-time imaging so the practitioner can see the skin layers before delivering each line. Over the following months, the body remodels collagen in the treated tissue, which may lead to a firmer and more lifted appearance along the jaw.

On the jawline, treatment usually covers the lower cheeks, jowl area and the region just below the jaw. Some plans also include the under-chin and neck, because laxity there affects how the jawline looks in profile.

Realistic expectations

Ultherapy is generally associated with a gradual, natural-looking change rather than a dramatic transformation. Many patients describe a tidier jawline, softer jowls or a slightly lifted lower face. What you can reasonably expect depends on:

  • Degree of laxity. Mild to moderate sagging tends to respond more visibly than heavy sagging.
  • Skin quality. Skin with reasonable elasticity often shows a clearer change.
  • Timeline. Some tightening may be felt early, but the main effect usually develops over two to three months and can continue to improve after that.
  • Treatment plan. The number of lines, the depths used and whether the neck is included all matter.

Results vary from person to person, and a doctor cannot guarantee a specific outcome.

Limitations to know before you book

A soft jawline is not always caused by sagging. Ultherapy is less likely to help if the main issue is something else:

  • Fat under the chin or along the jaw. Soft fullness may respond better to contouring options such as ONDA or fat-dissolving injections.
  • A wide, square jaw from strong muscles. This is often addressed with jaw Botox rather than lifting.
  • A short or recessed chin. Bone structure affects jawline definition, and chin filler may be discussed.
  • Heavy skin excess. Significant sagging may need a surgical opinion.
  • Very thin faces. Where there is little tissue to lift, other approaches may be considered.

This is why a consultation is essential. The doctor will examine your face from different angles and explain which factors are shaping your jawline.

Combining Ultherapy with other treatments

In Korea, jawline plans often combine treatments that address different causes. For example, a doctor may suggest Ultherapy for lifting, jaw Botox for a wide lower face, or a contouring device for fullness. At Daybeau Clinic Seomyeon, listed first-visit prices include:

  • Jaw Botox 50 units. KRW 9,900.
  • ZERO steroid-free fat-dissolving injection 3cc. KRW 15,000.
  • ONDA 20,000J. KRW 89,000.
  • Ultherapy Prime 300 shots. KRW 990,000.

Prices are in KRW, VAT excluded (10% VAT added at payment), checked October 2026. First-visit prices apply once per new patient per item. Fillers are quoted after an in-person consultation. See our price list, our Ultherapy Prime page and our V-line contouring page.

Side effects and aftercare

The jawline is a sensitive area for ultrasound treatment because it sits over bone. Common, usually temporary reactions include redness, swelling, tenderness when chewing or touching the area, and sometimes bruising. Less commonly, people notice temporary numbness or altered sensation. Contact the clinic if you have any symptoms that concern you, especially if they persist.

Aftercare is simple for most people: gentle skin care, sun protection and avoiding pressure on tender areas. Take photos before treatment and again a few months later to judge the change fairly.

Frequently asked questions

Will Ultherapy give me a sharp V-line?

Ultherapy may help with sagging along the jaw, but a V-line shape often depends on muscle, fat and bone too. A combined plan may be discussed.

How long until my jawline looks different?

Most people notice gradual change over two to three months, with possible further improvement after that.

Does Ultherapy hurt on the jaw?

The jawline can feel more sensitive than other areas. The doctor can explain how discomfort is managed.

Should I include the neck?

If laxity under the chin affects your profile, including it may help. Your doctor will advise.
